Meimai Machinaka Lab.

[School of Economics and Management] 2024.08.26

The Meimai Danchi, which straddles Kobe City and Akashi City, is a new town with a declining and aging population 60 years after its development. The Meimai Machinaka Lab., which was created in 2009 by utilizing a vacant store in the shopping district, has been engaged in various educational and research activities in Meimai, which is anticipating the aging of its population, with seminars to come up with solutions to problems and students to put their plans into practice. Recently, in collaboration with the prefecture, the city of Kobe, and various local organizations, the laboratory has been involved in revitalizing local festivals and revitalizing neighborhood associations and NPOs that support the lives of the elderly. These activities are intended to revitalize local ties and, by extension, the local economy. Students play an important role in connecting various people and organizations as an indispensable catalyst for community development.
