"Taishi Town General Park Yanagi Pond Wildlife Survey"

[School of Science] 2025.04.24

As part of Taishi Town's SDGs activities, the Taishi Town Urban Development Division organizes an annual wildlife survey at Yanagi Pond in Taishi Town General Park, Ibo District, every March. The Nature Research Society has been cooperating with this survey for several years, participating as instructors.

Unfortunately, last year's survey was canceled due to rain, but this year, blessed with good weather, the event was held on Saturday, March 22nd, with over 90 participants. With the pond partially drained, children enthusiastically extended their nets from the pond's edge to catch aquatic creatures. Additionally, members of the Nature Research Society, wearing waders, entered the pond to capture underwater organisms.

When a participant caught a carp about 50 centimeters long, cheers erupted from the crowd. Afterwards, the members of the Nature Research Society explained the names, characteristics, and ecology of each captured creature to the participants. After the event, the captured creatures were released back into the pond.
