Considering BCP (Business Continuity Plan) for Nursing Homes as an Extension of Their Original Services

Graduate School of Disaster Resilience and Governance

Professor Ryosuke Aota

A BCP for nursing homes to protect vulnerable populations by reducing potential harm is important. Under the guidance of the government, all nursing homes have created BCPs, but whether they are practical or not remains questionable. There is a perception that disaster prevention is a separate issue and a hurdle for welfare professionals. However, since the mission to protect lives is common, we have been guiding a nursing care facility for three years in developing a BCP by considering disaster prevention as an extension of the original welfare work. We are working on a theoretical framework of the results obtained there so that they can be applied to other facilities as well.

Development of Social Frailty Prevention Measures Using Health Apps

Research Institute of Nursing Care for People and Community

Professor Chisato Hayashi / Institute Director

The study will examine changes in social frailty*2 by dividing people into two groups: those who use health apps as a family and those who use them alone. We will examine whether using health apps together with family members as a health support bubble will have the effect of promoting information sharing and maintaining motivation for health promotion. Based on the research results, we are looking forward to building measures to prevent social frailty through the use of ICT.
*1 Family use of health applications
*2 Decline in physical and mental functions due to a decrease in social connections

Prepare for Natural Disasters, Infectious Diseases, and Other Crises

Graduate School of Disaster Resilience and Governance

Associate Professor Shohei Beniya

We are researching crisis management methods to help local governments, businesses, care providers, and communities overcome crises such as disasters and infectious disease pandemics.
Because disasters and crises occur in unexpected ways, a formal manual is not useful. In order to develop people and organizations that can respond flexibly, we are also working on the development of various training and exercise methods.
Last year, we also created an experimental disaster prevention test site for international students.

Value Assessment and Economic Effect Analysis of Region-Specific Resources

School of Economics and Management

Professor Akihiko Tomono, School of Economics and Management

There is tremendous value in the history, traditions, and culture that have roots in regions. When people visit regions in search of such features, it can create a positive economic effect for the region.

In my academic research, I select a specific field every year and visit it with my students. There, we conduct questionnaires. We use the travel cost method to assess the historical, traditional, and cultural values of assets specific to the region. We also measure the economic ripple effects by performing analyses in cooperation with industries based on the expenditures of tourists to the area,

In order to reduce the impact disasters have on human life and healthy living, I am tackling research on strengthening healthcare systems, creating disaster-resilient communities, and education of healthcare personnel in cooperation with researchers in other fields, both inside and outside the university, and with research organizations involved in disaster prevention.

In this academic year, I am conducting research on a healthcare worker support program, as a special research project, in order to improve the healthcare crisis response capabilities in Mongolia.
